Trapper Creek Trailhead is located in the Southern Washington Cascades just north of Carson, Washington. This trailhead provides access to the 5,969 acres of the Trapper Creek Wilderness. This trailhead gives direct access to Dry Creek Trail and Trapper Creek trail which you can link with other trails throughout the wilderness. While a few trails here are hiker only, most of them are open to equestrian use.

Parking: Large parking area – big rig friendly.

Possible Destinations:
(mileage is one way unless stated)

  • Big Hollow Trailhead – 4.1 miles
  • Observation Peak Fire Lookout – 6.2 miles
  • Berry Camp – 6.1 miles

Facilities: Vault toilet. Skamania Saddle Club is directly next to the trailhead. They have a camping area and several wooden corrals. Unsure about usage rules as it’s a private property.

Permits: NW Forest Pass + Self-Issued Wilderness Permit

Water Sources: Trapper Creek crosses under the road shortly before trailhead.

Backcountry Sites: Berry Camp. Otherwise unknown but if you know backcountry info for this area please email adventure.equines@gmail.com to update this listing.

Cell Service: Verizon – slow service at trailhead.

Fuel: Texaco – 11 Carson Frontage Rd, Carson, WA 98610

Directions: From Carson, WA follow the Wind River Road north for about 13.5 miles. Then take a left on Mineral Springs Road (Forest Road 3065). Take the first right on Forest Road 5401 and follow it for about a half of a mile to the trailhead.

Road Conditions: Gravel – great condition, recently redone as of June 2026.

Burn Area: Trapper Creek Wilderness was affected by the 2020 Big Hollow Fire. Travel with caution through burn areas.
