This 6.7-mile ride in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is quite out of this world looking. Facilities: Paria River Ranch is located only 5 minutes from the turnoff from Highway 89. Offers dry camping, electric hookups, cabins, corrals, water, shower house and a store. Highly recommended if you’re staying in the area.

Water Sources: Paria River crossing.

Trail Info: Leave the ranch out of the main gate and head east on the visible trail. Follow this down to the Paria River and cross under Highway 89. Continue on trail paralleling the highway for a short distance. When you reach the cattle gate you will need to dismount to open and close it – as it is coiled barbed wire. Some months when the cattle are gone, the gate may be removed. Continue on the trail to Moon Rocks. While you can continue into the canyon past Moon Rocks- the footing becomes less ideal and you won’t miss much by turning around here. When returning you may cross Highway 89 towards the Paria Contact Station and follow an alternate trail back to the ranch. Cross the Paria River again and retrace your path back to the ranch.

Trail Challenges: Loose sand, sun exposure, rattlesnakes, and possible quicksand around the Paria River. Check recently reported trail conditions on the whiteboard by the store at Paria River Ranch.

Permits: None.

Backcountry Sites: Not suitable for equestrian overnight use.

Cell Service: Verizon – LTE.

Fuel: Big Water Shortstop – 415 Independence, Big Water, UT 84741
