West Eagle Meadow Campground is located in Eastern Oregon outside of Baker City in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. This camp offers access to the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Enjoy high elevation sub-alpine terrain with stunningly clear creeks, craggy peaks, majestic lakes and unique wildflowers.

Campsites: 6 sites.
Fees: $10/night. 50% off with Interagency Access Pass or Senior Passes. Additional vehicles $5 per night. Please note: sign at campground says $15/night but both recreation.gov and fs.USFS.gov say $10/night.
Permits: Self-issued wilderness permit.
Popularity: Low use.
Elevation: 5,491 feet
Season: June 15 – September 30

Getting There

Directions:
From La Grande, Oregon, travel south on State Highway 203 for about 14 miles to Union, Oregon; In Union turn left on East Beakman Street and continue on Highway 203 for 14 more miles to Catherine Creek Summit; At the summit turn left on Forest Road 77 and follow it for 15 miles to the campground entrance on your left side after the West Eagle Creek crossing.

From Baker City, Oregon head north on Interstate 84 for 5 miles to exit 298 (State Highway 203); Turn right off Interstate 84 to State 203 Highway and travel 18 miles to Medical Springs, Oregon; In Medical Springs turn right on Big Creek Road and go 1.5 miles to Forest Road 67; Turn left on Forest Road 67 and go about 14 miles to Forest Road 77; Turn left on Forest Road 77 and go about 5 miles to the campground entrance which is on your right before the West Eagle Creek crossing

Road Conditions: Gravel, moderate washboarding, few potholes, some minor rocks. Note: the USFS site states that the last 4 miles is impassable by passenger car or trailer but that is outdated info. The road has been improved.

Stock Containment: Hitching posts, star feeder, highline trees.
Stock Water: Creek but it’s a walk.
Potable Water: No.
Manure Bin: No – disperse manure per Leave No Trace guidelines.
Trash/Dumpster: No.
Bathroom: Yes – vault toilet (top 5 cleanest).
Day Use Parking: None officially but day use allowed for $5 per vehicle.
