Kalama Horse Camp sits below Mount St Helens in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Southwest Washington. Wind through old growth forests, ash covered trails, climb the ridges and enjoy big views of the volcano itself. This camp is very popular amongst locals but is rarely full.

Getting There
Directions: From Woodland, WA: Take state Route 503 East for approximately 28 miles to Forest Road 81. Take a left on Forest Road 81 towards Kalama Horse Camp Recreation Area. Follow Forest Road 81 North for approximately 8 miles. Campground is on the right.

Road Conditions: Paved, gravel. Some large potholes in paved section with deep drops. Drive slow (I’m talking 10mph slow) so you can see them. Not all are marked with spray paint.

- 05/30/25: Trail #204 Cinnamon Trail and #242A Kalama Falls Trail, which depart from the horse camp trailhead, remain closed due to fire damage. Trails may not be cleared of any fallen trees from winter damage, so please use caution. Approximate fire damage line shown in map below, but may not be 100% accurate.
