Big Meadows Horse Camp lies in the Willamette National Forest and provides access to the Mt Jefferson Wilderness. Plenty of opportunities for long loops, overnight trips, and even access to the Pacific Crest Trail. For the really adventurous, link this camp to Sheep Springs Horse Camp on a multi night backcountry trip.

Fees: $25/night. 50% off with Interagency Access Pass or Senior Passes. Additional vehicles $9 per night.
Permits: Self-issued wilderness permit if camping and day riding. Non-campers must use Duffy Lake Trailhead.

Elevation: 3,572 feet
Season: Late May – Late October

Getting There

Directions: From Detroit, Oregon, travel 25.6 miles east on State Highway 22 to Big Meadows Road (Forest Service Road 2267). Use caution as the turn into this camp puts you directly at the entrance to a passing lane and people come up on you very fast.

From Sisters, Oregon, head west on State Highway 126/ US Highway 20 for 31.5 miles to Big Meadows Road (Forest Service Road 2267). (Highway will merge and continue as State Highway 22 after 25.7 miles from Sisters). Continue on Big Meadows Road (Forest Service Road 2267) for 0.9 miles to Forest Service Road 2257. Proceed on FS Road 2257 for 0.5 miles to Big Meadows Horse Camp.

Stock Water: Yes – stock tank.
Potable Water: Yes – hand pump.

Trash/Dumpster: Trash cans at bathrooms but please pack out your trash and don’t fill these.
Bathroom: Yes – vault toilet.
Day Use Parking: No. Day users must park at Duffy Lake Trailhead and have the appropriate Central Cascades Wilderness Permit.
