The Telemark-Eclipse Loop is located in the Methow Valley out of the North Summit Horse Camp. Also known as “Loup Loup” due its location with Loup Loup Pass Ski area, this camp provides access to the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest with both single track and forest road riding. This particular loop can be hard to follow by the paper map due to lack of signs, but luckily someone has GPX tracked the trail and shared that file for everyone to use below!

Trail Stats:

  • 10.5 mile loop
  • Elevation Gain: 1,414 feet
  • Elevation Loss: 1,589 feet
  • Max Elevation: 5,482 feet
  • Difficulty: Moderate
    What does this mean?
  • Footing: Mostly old logging road with great footing. Telemark trail is all single track multi-use with bicycles & hiking
  • Hoof Protection: 90% barefoot, used shoes 10% (probably didn’t need them)

Facilities: The North Summit horse camp is well laid out with about 10 spacious pull through sites and 2 back in sites with picnic tables and highlines at each. The highlines are complete with cables and multiple loops to tie to. There is a community day use area and beautiful shelter with about 6 picnic tables. Trail maps are currently being kept in a binder on a table under the picnic shelter. There are toilets near the shelter. There are 4 manure bins complete with wheelbarrows and manure forks. There is good quality stock water (not potable) with good water pressure. They have thought of everything! Fees are $10/night and worth every penny.

Water Sources: Stock water in camp. No water on the trail on either side, other than the horse camp and bridge crossing.

Trail Info: West out of horse camp 0.6 miles, north on Road 135 (which turns into Road 140) for 1.6 miles to USFS Road 4200. Go north on Road 4200 for about 0.25 miles to cattle guard. Before the cattle guard, take the single track trail west up the hill for 0.25 miles to Gabian Trail (old logging road). There is a sign for Gabian Trail on a tree on the left and a viewpoint. Directly across (NW) from this is another logging road on right which is unnamed and connects to the Eclipse trail (**this is EASY to miss). In 1.6 mi on the Eclipse Trail, you come to a 4-way intersection. Go straight on the single track to Telemark Trail. This crosses the Bear Mtn Loop Trail which is a logging rd on left and yellow gate and rd on right. Telemark Trail goes up and across the top of Bear Mountain for about 1.75 miles to another logging road. Go Northeast on Nexus Trail for .75 miles to Inner Loop Trail for 0.5 miles. At the 3-way intersection of inner loop and Gabian Trail you can connect to the new bridge trail for 0.5 miles- which will take you back (0.6 mi) to the trail you started on out of the West gate of the horse camp. It’s much easier to download the gps tracks on your phone because much of this loop is not well marked/labeled.

Trail Challenges: One new bridge crossing. Lots of mountain bike trails on the north summit side which are labeled “no horses”. Some trails are not well marked. Trails on the South side are well marked for cross country skiing use. **None are marked exclusively for bikes and all are open to equestrian use! They’ve used a number and letter combination system which is pretty simple once you figure it out. The trails seem to be all logging roads here with great tread. No shoes are necessary and most trails seem easy to moderate. Its a great place to do some cantering and trotting! It is mostly forested with a couple view points.
