Mount Adams Horse Camp is located on the southwestern flank of the mountain and provides access to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Mount Adams Wilderness. This camp is under 2 hours from the Portland metro area and has beautiful forested trails, or if your willing to do a longer day ride you can access the higher elevation views.

Bonus: this camp boasts some of the BEST stargazing I’ve ever seen. Better than some of the Dark Sky parks throughout the US.

Getting There

Directions: From Trout Lake, Washington take Mt. Adams Road north to the intersection with Forest Road 23. At this intersection fork to the right. Continue driving for one mile to the turn onto Forest Road 80. This road is signed “South Climb”. Make the left hand turn on to Forest Road 80 and continue to the intersection with spur road 031 at the sign for the horse camp. Turn left and drive to the entrance to the camp on the right.

Note: There are varying opinions about which highway to take. I-84 will require you to cross a narrow bridge into WA. SR-14 is a two lane windy highway. Personally, I prefer using SR-14 on the WA side of the river as I find the bridge to be terrifying – but it seems to be a 50/50 split on this debate.
