After a long winter, spring is finally here. I’ve spent months on months scouting trails, meadows, water sources, roads, trail heads, forest service rules, national park regulations. I’m not sure if it’s the throughness of myself, or just a way to pass the winter. Our running joke is the forest service rangers are my besties because I call them so much with my random questions.
We’re gearing up for our first pack trip of the year. It feels like cheater mode to me after what we accomplished last summer, but its long miles and a good prep for our John Muir Trail adventure.

We will be slogging along the Metolious Windago trail in central oregon for four days. 20-23 mile days, in between horse camps and a dispersed site. There’s not much grazing or even water at one of the sites, so in cheater mode – we will be dropping hay and water where needed. I suppose I can stay purist and pretend its a supported PCT mini trek.
